Two new meet records by Nethmika and Abishalini

The first day of the Junior National Championship at the Sugathadasa Stadium saw Nethmika Madushani Herath of Nannapurawa MV, Moneragala, and Paranththaman Abishalini of Chavakachcheri Hindu College perform well before the afternoon session was cut short due to the curfew enforced on Monday. They were both able to set new junior meet marks.

Nethmika Madushani set a new meet record in the Under 18 girls long jump, clearing 5.98 meters.

Meanwhile Paranththaman Abishalini of Chavakachcheri Hindu College set a new record in the Under 18 girls’ pole vault, clearing 3.15 meters.

However, following the imposition of a curfew on Monday afternoon, Sri Lanka Athletics postponed the remaining events on day one and the three following days, and they are likely to resume this meet whenever the country’s situation returns to normal.

According to G.LS Perera, Sri Lankan junior athletes are eager to participate in this competition, which acts as the last selection trial for the World Junior Championships.
