Mumbai Indians, the five-time Indian Premier League winners, had a forgettable season, finishing bottom of the table in the league phase with only four victories out of a possible 14. Former India batter Aakash Chopra stated during an analysis of MI’s season that the five-time winners will have to dismiss several players, including senior all-rounder Kieron Pollard. Pollard made 144 runs at a dismal average of 14.40 in 14 matches and was finally omitted from the starting XI for the final three games of the season.
“I think Kieron Pollard has played his final game. If they do not keep him, Rs 6 crore will be freed. Murugan Ashwin (Rs 1.6 crore) should also be let go, in my opinion. I’m not sure about Jaydev Unadkat (Rs 1.3 crore), but Tymal Mills (Rs 1.5 crore) can absolutely go “Chopra stated this in a video posted to his YouTube account.
For the record, Pollard is one of the rare IPL players who has only played for one team.
Pollard has played 189 games for MI in the IPL, amassing 3,412 runs at an average of 28.6, including 16 fifties. Since joining the franchise in 2010, he has also captured 69 wickets.
He also has five IPL victories with MI, including back-to-back championships in 2019 and 2020.
Earlier this year, the 35-year-old declared his retirement from international cricket.
It will be fascinating to see if Pollard will play for MI next season.
